Hello, I am KENTA, a Japanese who loves manga! Today, I’ll be discussing the very popular manga “Chainsaw Man” and thoroughly explaining why Kishibe was not ruled by Makima. This discussion will surely draw you further into the deep fascination of Censorman. Now, let’s unravel the mystery together!
Introducing Makima and Kishibe’s Characters
First, let us review the characters of Makima and Kishibe.
Makima Makima is one of the main characters from the first episode and is the boss of Denji, Aki, and Power. She is the leader of the Public Security Counter-Magic Section 4, and her true identity is that of a demon of domination. Using her abilities, she is able to manipulate the memories of many characters, manipulate their emotions, and enforce orders. In effect, Makima reigned as the last boss of Part 1.
Kishibe Kishibe is a devil hunter belonging to the Public Security Section 1, and is also known as the strongest devil hunter because of his abilities. After the attacks by Samurai Sword and Sawatari Akane, he was merged with the new Section 4 and became the captain of the new Section 4. Although ostensibly colleagues in the Public Safety Department, Kishibe has long harbored a distrust of Makima, and there is no trace of a collegial bond or trust between them.
Kishibe’s distrust of Makima
Kishibe’s distrust of Makima is revealed in episode 32, when Kishibe discovers that Makima was aware of the public safety attack in advance and that she is a demon. He slyly checkmated, “I’ll let you off the hook as long as you’re on the side of the human master. In the “World Assassins” episode, they seem to be working together with the same goal of protecting Denji from the world’s assassins, but in episode 61, Kishibe asks Quanxi from China to help him eliminate Makima, showing how dangerous Makima is. Makima was considered dangerous.
Kishibe’s Countermeasures
Kishibe probably had a plan to eliminate Makima as soon as he learned of Quanxi’s arrival in Japan. However, the negotiations broke down. Kishibe certainly needed more forces to confront his target Makima, but his personal feelings about Quanxi’s death were also evident in the manga at the end of the book. Kishibe had a special feeling for Quanxi over the years, more than comradeship.
How Makima’s rule was averted
We will now attempt to solve the mystery of how Kishibe was able to circumvent Makima’s demonic ability to dominate.
The Devil’s Ability of Domination and Kishibe’s Countermeasure
Makima’s ability is to dominate those he considers to be of a lesser degree than himself. In other words, it may not be that Makima did not dominate Kishibe, but that he could not dominate it because he did not think it was of a lower degree than himself, or because he thought it was of a higher degree. Kishibe, as portrayed in the film, was hostile toward Makima, and his “I’ll let you off the hook” was as if Kishibe was in a superior position.
Makima’s Relationship with Kishibe
Makima always spoke respectfully to Kishibe, perhaps because Kishibe was his elder, and the two stood side by side and exchanged opinions in the “World Assassins” section. Kishibe was not afraid of Makima, nor was he aware of her as a member of the opposite sex, and in a sense he was a valuable presence for Makima, pointing out lies that he saw through and explicitly checking her out.
Possibility that Makima did not understand affection
Another possibility that Kishibe was not dominated by Makima is that Makima did not understand affection. As noted above, Kishibe loved Quanxi. In addition to Kishibe, other characters who escaped Makima’s control in the film include Himeno and Power at the end of the film, both of whom also share a deep love for a specific person.
Conflict between affection and control
Himeno has a single-minded love for Aki and calls Makima a “bitch,” implying that he is by no means enthralled by Makima. Power, the demon at the end of the story, says, “Why did you go against Makima?” but also says, “Not Denji, because Denji is the first friend I ever had,” shaking off Makima’s control based on the deep affection that he had developed for the first time.
Conclusion and Discussion
Another character who shows deep affection for others in the work is Aki, who is also becoming aware of his family-like affection for Denji and Power, but it is only because of this affection that Aki asks Makima for help, “Please help me. Makima was the one who asked Makima to help him. The power of control that had originally been the base of the relationship became even more firmly subordinated, and Aki was finally unable to escape Makima’s control. In the final story of Part I, Makima’s loneliness was described by Pochita. Makima, the demon of domination, could only build relationships with others through domination, and he had always longed for a strong bond with others, like family. However, there is a difference between longing and understanding. Perhaps Makima, being a demon of domination, could not understand that there are strong emotions that shake off all forms of domination, and could not swallow those who possess them in the form of domination. When I think of it that way, I feel a little sad for the existence of Makima.
What did you think? Kishibe was the one who consistently confronted Makima from the beginning to the end, not fearing him, not worshipping him, not forgiving him at all. It is not clear how Makima viewed Kishibe, but he may have found him interesting as someone outside of his control.
