Coby’s model is Momotaro
I thought that Coby’s story in One Piece might be modeled after the Japanese folktale of [Momotaro].
First, let me introduce what the story of Momotaro is about.
A grandfather is mowing the lawn and a grandmother is washing clothes in the river when a large peach comes down from the river.
When the peach is opened, [Momotaro] is born.
[Momotaro] joins a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant to exterminate ogres.
In One Piece, Momotaro is Coby, who joins Red Dog, Yellow Monkey, and Blue Pheasant to defeat Blackbeard, the ogre.
It all makes sense when you think of it this way.
Coby is the hero behind the scenes
Coby is the exact opposite of Luffy.
I believe that the name “Coby” was also given to him from the Japanese word for “flirt.
It means that at first, the [chore] that was flirtatious has grown into something bigger.
In the first story of One Piece, the first episode shows what kind of man the main character Luffy is, and the second episode begins the search for his friends.
The first person we meet when we start looking for friends is Coby.
I thought Coby would be the first mate I would meet.
However, Coby did not become one of them and Zoro, whom I meet in the third story, became one of them.
In fact, Coby has appeared since the beginning of One Piece and is getting stronger and stronger.
In my estimation, Coby is the [One Piece’s backstage hero].
Similarities between Coby and Momotaro
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, Coby and Momotaro have several things in common.
1. Coby’s hair color
Coby’s hair color is [pink]. In Japanese, it is also called [peach color].
I think this [peach color] is foreshadowing that it is modeled after [Momotaro].
2. the characters in the story match
In the story of Momotaro, the grandfather who went to the mountain to mow the lawn and the grandmother who went to the river to wash clothes are the first characters.
In the world of One Piece, the same grandpas and grandmas appear.
The grandfather who went to the mountains to mow the lawn is [Garp].
He made the statement [that he was shattering the mountain instead of sandbagging it].
And the old lady who was washing clothes into the river is [Otsuru].

This corresponds to the relationship between Garp and Coby in the One Piece world.
Garp wanted his grandson to be in the Navy, but both Luffy and Ace became pirates. Coby, who became a navy member, is practically a grandson for Garp.

The new generation of the Navy is Sword
My guess is that [Sword] is the organization formed to counter the darkness of the World Government.
The founding members of Sword are probably [Otsuru], [Sengoku], and [Garp].
And, in fact, these three grandchildren are in Swords.
For [Otsuru], his grandson is Peacock; for [Sengoku], it is Rocinante who carries on [his grandson’s will]; for Garp, it is [Coby] who carries on his grandson’s will.
