Hello! I am KENTA, a Japanese who loves manga.
In this issue, I would like to share with you an amazing insight into Zoro, the oldest and most popular character in the Straw Pirates.
Please note that this will be a shocking discussion for Zoro fans!
First of all, I conclude that [Zoro will most likely die before the last chapter].
This is only part of the evidence, but there was a question about Zoro in the SBS (the section to answer readers’ questions) in Vol. 91.
A question received from a reader, [I would like to see Zorro’s 40 and 60 years old, including whatever future happened to him].
In response to this question, Mr. Oda prefaced his answer with, “This is what might happen if I were to live safely. He prefaces his painting with the words, “If I live in one piece, this is what I might do.
He expresses himself as if there is little chance that he will live to be 40 years old.
Of course, this is not the only basis for consideration.
Let us consider it more deeply.
Zorro is directionless
Suddenly, Zorro is directionless.
Why did Oda-sensei make Zoro a directionless character?
He always doesn’t know where he is going to end up.
The character Zorro is [a] character that is left to chance.
All the time, if you think back, he is taking bets.
When you get a sword in Rogue Town at the entrance to the Grand Line.
“Let’s see who’s stronger, my luck or mine.”
And the name [Zorro] comes from [Zoro].
There is an old Japanese gambling game called “chinchirorin,” in which you win if you roll the dice and the numbers come out in the same order.
When the numbers are equal, the game is called “Zorome”.
And lo and behold, Zorro’s relatives are also named in connection with [betting].
Thus, it seems that the pirate king’s right hand man has a gambling nature.
Zoro has been dying since his first appearance due to this property.
[Moon] and [death] in relation to Zorro
From the descriptions so far, we can see that Zorro is deeply related to [moon] and [death].
Let us recall the past descriptions.
First of all, Zorro is the moon.
In One Piece, [Samurai] is [Wa no Kuni], but [Shimotsuki] and [Hikarigetsu] came out in Wa no Kuni, and Zoro’s dojo was [Shimotsuki], and speaking of Samurai, it is [Hikarigetsu].
All of them have letters meaning [moon] in the Japanese language.
Immediately after entering the Grand Line, [Whiskey Peak where 100 people were hunted] is where Zoro’s activities are depicted in large size.
Again, [the moon] was depicted as being impressed.
And Zoro is related to [moon] and another thing, [death].
Oda-sensei always draws [death] along with the moon, and the tomb also appeared in the earlier Kougetsu.
The cactus at Whiskey Peak also has a grave.
The moon and the grave are linked in the work, and Zoro is associated with [the moon] and [death].
Relationship with Mexico
The words [moon] and [death], a country emerges from these words.
That is Mexico.
First, let me explain the relationship between the moon and Mexico.
Mexico is known as the “belly button of the moon” in the local language.
The empty island where the moon was painted was set in Mexico.
In the Japanese version of the manga, the inhabitants of Sorajima also add [navel] to the end of their words, “00 navel!” and “navel” is added to the end of the word.
This may also be related to the word “navel of the moon.
The World Heritage Site in Mexico is Ushmar.
This is also a solid model in one piece.
Next, regarding the relationship between the tomb and Mexico, Mexico is the [culture of the dead] [festival of the dead].
King Taco appears in the work.
When it comes to tacos, Mexico is the place to be.
The name of the country he reigns over is [Chacino], but in Chinese characters it is [Land of the Dead].
Thus, the elements of [moon] and [death] studded in Zorro connect Zorro and Mexico.
The green color of his hair and the cactus of his nickname called by Sanji.
From this, we can see that Zoro is associated with Mexico.
Zorro is [Mexico], so he first played a big role in Whiskey Peak, which is set in Mexico.
But if you think about it, there could be a town related to [tequila], which is representative of Mexico.
If you have packed so many Mexican elements into Zorro, the place to make Zorro active is likely to be Tequila.
I think they are saving [tequila] for a place where he will be more active in the future.
Please take a look at this scene.
Actually, there is a country on the bridge called [Tequila Wolf], and it hasn’t appeared in the story yet.
And it is Tequila [Wolf].
The wolf is also the image of the moon, and if I recall, Zorro almost died when he first appeared because he cut off Helmeppo’s wolf.
Romancing Sa-Ga, a tribute to FINAL FANTASY
The author, Mr. Oda, has said that he also plays video games a lot, and is believed to have been influenced by the Japanese game Romancing Sa-Ga.
For example, in my opinion, the [Shichibukai characters] are modeled after the [Seven Heroes] of Romancing Sa・Ga.
The Seven Heroes of Romancing Sa-Ga are here.
- plotting to dominate a country in order to defeat a fellow country’s enemies → Crocodile
- genius swordsman → Mihawk
- enchanting the opponent with the queen of the village of female warriors → Boa Hancock
- half fisherman who attacks by manipulating ocean currents → Zimbabwe
- a tyrant who has strengthened and remodeled his body → Bear
- a puppet of the dark and dirty business of his subordinates in various places → Doflamingo
- zombies are hated by the spirits as their main subordinates → Gekko Moriah. All of these match and seem to be the model for the Shichibukai, don’t they?
Likewise, I think the popular Japanese game FINAL FANTASY is a tribute to Zoro.
The most famous song in FINAL FANTASY [Death on the Big Bridges], in which a swordsman named Gilgamesh dies at the end, taking his enemies with him in order to protect the hero.
Gilgamesh is a swordsman with more hands.
Leaving for the last Zorro [Tequila Wolfe].
Someday, I wonder if a death match by swordsmen will be depicted on this huge bridge.
- The moon and the tomb
- The element of death that has haunted only Zoro since the beginning. Tequila Wolf, which is deliberately left for Zoro at the end. How will Oda-sensei make Zoro have flowers with Tequila Wolf?
But wait.
I’m afraid that if I end like this, Zoro fans all over the country will get angry with me, so I have one last thing to say.
The last thing I want is that [as a result of being swept out to sea thinking he is dead, he arrives first at Raftel, where One Piece is sleeping]. Is it indeed possible?
Please take a look at our past discussion of the location of the Raftel, which is of interest to you.
Where is Raftel, where One Piece is said to sleep?
Zorro has [the element of death] and is always ready to die for someone because of his gamble nature, but in fact, he always wins the gamble.
He has no sense of direction and goes to strange places, but thanks to him, he saves his friends and is the first to arrive at the Shabondi Islands, and to begin with, Chinchiro’s [Zoro] is a lucky sign, and Zoro means lucky.
In the story ahead, Zorro will live or die, let’s leave it to luck.
