Surprise thought: Shanks' left arm. The culprit is not a sea king?

Hello!
I am KENTA, a Japanese who spends almost all day reading “manga” on my days off.
This time, I would like to share with you a very interesting discussion of a scene that has been on the minds of many viewers.

What is the question that many readers have?

There is a big question in One Piece that just can’t be resolved in the first volume.
Here it is.
When Shanks rescued Luffy from drowning, Shanks’ left hand was bitten off by the Lord of the Nearshore Sea in this scene.

At that time, about 6 years before Shanks became the Fourth Emperor, could he really be so badly damaged as to have one of his hands bitten off by the Lord of the Inland Sea?

From the viewers,

  • Isn’t it a setting mistake?
  • Did he actually have powers and was weakened because he was underwater?
  • Did he intentionally feed them? and so on.

This time, I would like to introduce a very surprising consideration that does not fall into the above categories.

Luffy is the one who ate Shanks’ arm!

First, let me tell you the conclusion.
“Luffy is the one who bit off Shanks’ left arm in this scene.
After eating the Nikanika fruit, Luffy awakens to face death.
Awakening with his mind and body not caught up, Luffy was deprived of his personality by Nika and bit off Shanks’ arm.

Reader: Hey, come on! Isn’t that as expected?

Yes, at first I thought so too.
But as I considered it, I found several reasons why the Lord of the Inshore Sea did not eat them.
I will explain them in detail here.

Why it was not the Lord of the Near Seas who ate Shanks’ arm

There are two reasons why we believe that it was not the Lord of the Near Seas who ate off Shanks’ arm.

The first is Shanks’ strength.
It is hard to believe that someone as powerful as Shanks could take that much damage, even though he is the master of the nearby seas.
Considering that he was able to go toe-to-toe with Mihawk at the time and was recognized by Whitebeard, Shanks was considered strong enough.

And second, this scene where his arm was eaten.
Look closely.
There is blood coming out of Shanks, but there is no blood at all on the fangs of the Lord of the Near Seas.

These two points led me to believe that it was not the Lord of the Inland Sea who took Shanks’ arm from him.

Why did Luffy bite off Shanks’ arm?

Luffy thought that “Nika took his personality through his awakening” and bit off his arm.

Do you remember the scene when Luffy awakened?
This is the scene where Luffy is standing on the verge of death to the point of instant death.
It was when he took so much damage that it could be read as once he died in the battle with Kaidou.

If he awakens when he is on the verge of death with the Nikanika fruit, then it is possible that he awakens when he is attacked by the Lord of the Near Seas in the first volume.

Luffy awakens when he is about to be eaten by the Lord of Kinkai.
However, the awakening of the ability of the devil’s fruit happens when the body and mind catch up with the ability.
Luffy’s body and mind had not caught up with his abilities in his childhood, so when he awakened, he was deprived of his personality and went berserk, biting off Shanks’s arm as a result.

Reader: But Luffy has almost died before, right?

It’s true!
He was almost killed by a baby carriage in Longtown and said, “Sorry I died,” and he suffered for 24 hours when he was hit by Magellan’s poison.
So I took a deeper look into the matter.

To control Luffy’s awakening, you need a “straw hat”.

The “power of the straw hat” is a possibility here.
The theory is that the straw hat is involved in controlling arousal.

Wearing the straw hat allows Luffy to control Nika’s ego.
If this consideration is true, then Shanks is looking at Nika when he saves Luffy.
At that time, I think he saw Nika, the first stage of the zoon-type humanoid fruit.
Here, Shanks realized that the true identity of the “Gomu Gomu no Mi” was the “Hitohito no Mi, Phantasmagoria Model Nika.
Shanks, who had obtained a “straw hat with the power to control his ego,” entrusted the straw hat to Luffy.

Do you remember this scene?
Later, when Shanks sees Luffy’s arrangement with Nika awakened by the Gear Fifth, he says, “This is…”.
It explains why Shanks reacted as if he knew about Nika.

I think the straw hat has some hidden ability.
It is known that Zunisha was friends with Joy Boy 800 years ago, and when Luffy was awakened by Nika, Zunisha said to Luffy, “Joy Boy has returned.

This means that there was someone who awakened 800 years ago, and it is highly possible that it was Joy Boy who awakened the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit 800 years ago.
If Joy Boy was wearing a straw hat, then the straw hat is what Nika needs to control his ego.
Shanks was asked by Whitebeard why he lost his arm,

“It’s a new era,” he says.
I think it also means “I have put my straw hat on a new era” as well as my arms.

This time, since the subject matter has been discussed by many readers, I decided to take a very aggressive approach.
I am very much looking forward to the gradual unraveling of this mystery in the future.
